Canada in May 2026: the most important developments in society
In Canada in May 2026, hate incidents and public health were the main social topics. Montreal police investigated a hate incident after an effigy wearing a kippah was hung at a rally, and posters of a missing Jewish teenager were being torn down across Toronto, with the family fearing antisemitism. Mexico said it was coordinating with the United States and Canada on Ebola protocols for the World Cup, after a new outbreak of the virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In entertainment, concerts by the French singer Patrick Bruel in Quebec were canceled by multiple venues and promoters after sexual assault allegations against him. No formal charges had been announced, and Bruel had not commented publicly.
