Al-Ahram is an Egyptian state-owned daily newspaper based in Cairo, founded in the 1870s and among the oldest papers in the Arab world. Its coverage centres on Egypt, followed by the United States, Iran, Palestine and Israel, with politics and diplomacy dominating and security and economy well behind. Its headlines are consistently favourable toward the Egyptian state and critical of Israel.
Al-Ahram is consistently favourable toward Egypt and its state, and toward President Sisi in particular, whom its headlines treat in celebratory and reverential terms. It is critical of Israel and, at times, of Benjamin Netanyahu, and sympathetic toward Palestinian positions. Russia, France and the United Nations are treated respectfully, while Iran is covered neutrally to sympathetically. Its view of the United States and Donald Trump was skeptical through the spring and has been mostly neutral since. The stance is measured from headlines toward countries and persons; it is not a rating of accuracy.
