Venezuela was hit by two powerful earthquakes in quick succession, causing widespread damage in the capital Caracas and other areas. The US Geological Survey reported the quakes, which toppled buildings and left at least 32 people dead and more than 700 injured.
Kevin Poweska of ARD-aktuell described the event as the strongest earthquake to hit Venezuela in 100 years. Authorities fear the death toll could rise further as rescue efforts continue in affected regions.
