Macron, Trump and Zelensky Meet in New York as Ukraine Truce Talks Intensify

In late September 2026, French President Emmanuel Macron, US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky gathered in New York around the UN General Assembly. Macron said he and Trump held "constructive" talks covering Ukraine, ideas for an energy truce with Russia, and the Red Sea, and that he had discussed the energy truce proposals with Trump. Zelensky arrived in New York ahead of the UNGA and planned to meet Trump as part of his push for a truce with Russia, and he also met CIA Director John Ratcliffe in Ireland on his way. Separately, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov planned a meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in New York.
