US and partners launch large-scale strikes against Islamic State in Syria

The United States military, along with partner forces, has carried out what it describes as 'large-scale' airstrikes against Islamic State (IS) targets across Syria. The strikes are reported to be retaliatory, coming in response to a recent deadly ambush against U.S. forces in the region.

Jordan is also reported to have conducted separate airstrikes on ISIS targets in Syria. The operation, coordinated by U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), targeted multiple locations in an effort to degrade the militant group's capabilities.
