Iran Issues New Demands for Reopening Strait of Hormuz

In early August 2026, Iran's Supreme National Security Council published a list of six demands addressed to the United States, saying the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until Washington meets them. Among the conditions, Tehran demands a full U.S. military withdrawal from the region and that the U.S. 'rectify its behavior' before any reopening of the strategic waterway.
