The Syrian army has deployed into areas east of the Euphrates River previously held by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The military announced it has taken control of the town of Al-Shaddadi and its prison.
The SDF said it lost control of the Al-Shaddadi prison. The Syrian government accused the SDF of releasing prisoners who were members of the Islamic State group. The army is now pursuing escaped prisoners and has imposed a curfew in Al-Shaddadi.
