Russia's Lavrov visits Tehran for talks with Iranian officials

In October 2026, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met in Tehran with Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi and with the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council. Lavrov said Russia does not intend to give up cooperation with Iran and hopes Iranians will take part in a security conference in Minsk. He also said Russia is ready to help in the conflict between the US and Iran, and that Russia had blocked attempts at the UN to justify what he called US aggression against Iran. Iranian Major General Rezaei stressed Iran's determination to strengthen strategic cooperation with Russia.
