The United States has begun moving up to 7,000 detainees affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS) from makeshift prisons in northeastern Syria to Iraq. The detainees will face legal proceedings under Iraqi law.
Iraqi officials have opened three prisons to receive the transferred detainees. At the same time, Iraq is calling on European Union countries to take back their own citizens who are among the detainee population.
