A powerful explosion hit a hotel in central Kabul, Afghanistan. Reports say at least seven people were killed and more than a dozen others were injured. Chinese nationals were among the casualties, with one killed and at least two others injured. The Chinese Embassy in Afghanistan has urged an investigation and is providing aid to the injured.

The Taliban has confirmed that it is holding American citizens in Afghanistan. The news comes after a period of nine days of developments in the country.
