The European Union is taking several steps focused on the Balkan region. It has allocated €171 million for infrastructure and private sector growth there and says it will address issues facing truck drivers in the area. Separately, there are reports that Europe is looking at the Balkans, along with Ukraine, as potential locations for new drug production hubs.

Serbia is waiting for approval from the United States to increase the state's ownership stake in the oil and gas company NIS. President Aleksandar Vučić said the terms of the deal will be sent to the US Treasury Department by January 23.
