Patterns
- Procurement and spending headlines framed as impressive capability ('Will Pay $552 Million', 'Pouring $2 Billion', 'Wins $20 Billion Contract')
- Celebratory service-anniversary and readiness framing ('Celebrates 70th Anniversary', 'Ready to Break Its Carrier Deployment Record')
- Critical watchdog headlines on specific failures ('Not Protecting Pilots from Brain Injuries', 'Agent Data Exposed in FBI Hack', 'Was It Normal... So Rusty')
- Strategic anxiety framing ('Could Make or Break an Indo-Pacific War', 'Pivot Away from the Indo-Pacific')
Caveats
Coverage is genuinely mixed: most headlines are neutral-to-positive defense-procurement reporting that treats US military spending and programs as newsworthy and impressive, while a minority adopt a critical watchdog stance on specific institutional failures (pilot brain injuries, FBI hack, rusty carrier). No consistent delegitimising vocabulary toward the US as an entity; the critical pieces target specific programs/agencies rather than the country itself. Stance is best read as neutral with a mild favorable tilt on military-industrial topics.
