OpenAI has agreed to work with the U.S. Department of Defense, revealing details about the partnership and the 'red lines' it has set to limit military uses of its AI. The company says it won't allow its technology to be used for developing weapons or causing harm.
This deal came about after similar talks between the Pentagon and a rival AI company, Anthropic, fell apart. Anthropic's CEO, Dario Amodei, reportedly refused to build AI weapons, a stance that led to the breakdown in negotiations. Following the dispute, Anthropic's AI chatbot, Claude, became the top app in Apple's App Store.
