Nationwide protests and political clashes over immigration enforcement in Minneapolis

Large-scale protests erupted across the United States, with major demonstrations in Minneapolis, against the tactics of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Protesters closed schools and businesses, and a federal judge temporarily blocked the Trump administration from detaining certain refugees in Minnesota. The protests were partly sparked by the detention of a five-year-old boy and his father by ICE in the Minneapolis area.

Political and legal clashes intensified. Minnesota's governor, Tim Walz, accused the Trump administration of wanting to 'twist reality.' A federal judge ordered the ICE chief to appear in court and threatened a contempt ruling. Senate Democrats blocked a Department of Homeland Security funding package, raising the threat of a government shutdown over immigration policy disputes.

The situation remained tense on the ground. Trump deployed a border official to Minnesota and warned the Minneapolis mayor he was 'playing with fire.' ICE continued operations, including buying warehouses for a detention network, while a poll showed 59% of voters believed the agency was too aggressive.
