Iran restricts and charges ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz

Iran has imposed restrictions on which vessels can pass through the strategic Strait of Hormuz and is reportedly charging a fee of two million dollars per ship. The European Commission has called any closure of the strait 'unacceptable' as it threatens global energy security. Despite the restrictions, some vessels, including a tanker carrying Iraqi oil, have been permitted to cross.
