Bosnia expels Serbian diplomats after Mladic funeral; Serbia calls elections

On September 8, 2026, Bosnia withdrew most of its embassy staff from Serbia and expelled two Serbian diplomats in protest over the funeral of Ratko Mladic, the convicted war criminal, in Belgrade. Bosnia's foreign minister said he would break diplomatic relations if he could. Meanwhile, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced parliamentary elections for October 25, 2026. The EU and UK also expressed dismay over the funeral, which they saw as glorifying a war criminal.
