UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer visits China for the first time in years

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has arrived in Beijing for his first official visit to China. It's the first trip by a British prime minister since 2018, part of a recent wave of visits by Western leaders.

Starmer said he would be 'clear-eyed' about national security during the talks but also encouraged British businesses to seize opportunities in China. He plans to raise issues 'that need to be raised' in a meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, including the case of detained media publisher Jimmy Lai.
