Iran and Gulf States Postpone Strait of Hormuz Meeting in Oman

A planned meeting in Oman between Iran and Gulf Arab states to discuss a new maritime route in the Strait of Hormuz was postponed, Omani officials said in mid-September 2026. The talks, which would have been a rare high-level gathering between Iran and its Gulf neighbors, were called off at the request of some regional countries, according to Iran.

Iranian officials said the postponement was made in the interest of regional consensus. Separately, Iran and Oman had agreed on details for new entry and exit routes in the Strait of Hormuz, according to reports. The meeting was not attended by the United States.
