India blocks Telegram during medical exam retest to prevent cheating

India has temporarily blocked the messaging app Telegram until Monday, just before a nationwide retest for medical school entrance exams. The government took this step after a previous exam was compromised by fraud, with leaked question papers circulating on Telegram. The National Testing Agency (NTA) is overseeing the retest and has boosted security measures to prevent further cheating.

Telegram CEO Pavel Durov responded to the ban, criticizing the move. The block applies only during the exam period and is meant to stop students from sharing answers or leaked materials through the app.
