Indian minister disputes IMF's AI ranking at Davos forum

Ashwini Vaishnaw, India's minister for electronics and information technology, publicly challenged an International Monetary Fund (IMF) assessment that placed India in a 'second-tier' category for artificial intelligence development. Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Vaishnaw argued that India belongs in the 'first group' of global AI powers.

Separately, the IMF raised its economic growth forecast for India for the 2026 fiscal year to 7.3%, while also predicting a slower pace of growth in the following two years.
