German and French leaders meet to discuss European economic policy and competition

Chancellor Friedrich Merz and French President Emmanuel Macron held a meeting where they showed agreement on issues of European competition and industrial policy. They discussed the idea of a 'Made in EU' label to promote European products.

Macron has proposed creating new shared European Union bonds, but German officials in Berlin have rejected this proposal. The two leaders are also reported to be on a collision course over a 'buy European' policy approach.
