Japan disputes US report calling its Taiwan stance a significant shift

Japan has rejected a U.S. intelligence assessment that described Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's recent remarks on Taiwan as representing a 'significant shift' in Japan's position. The assessment came ahead of a planned meeting between Japanese and U.S. leaders. Separately, the same U.S. intelligence report stated that China is not currently planning to invade Taiwan in 2027.
