Iranian Strikes Damage US Bases; War Costs $38 Billion

In September 2026, reports and photos showed that Iranian missile and drone strikes caused extensive damage to US military bases across the Middle East. The US military also released footage of an operation to rescue an injured airman stranded inside Iran.

The Congressional Budget Office reported that the war with Iran has cost the US more than $38 billion through July. In a separate move, the US Congress directed President Trump to withdraw troops from Iran, with support from seven Republicans.
