Qatar has halted its exports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in what is reported to be the longest such stoppage since at least 2008. This has disrupted supply contracts with major energy companies.
As a result, companies like Shell and TotalEnergies have declared force majeure to their customers who buy Qatari LNG. This legal clause frees them from their contractual delivery obligations due to circumstances beyond their control. Other companies buying Qatari gas have also declared themselves exempt from responsibility for any delivery failures.
