Iran and Oman agree on new Strait of Hormuz shipping routes

Iran and Oman have reached an agreement on new entry and exit routes for shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, according to Iranian officials and state-linked media. Arab foreign ministers are expected to sign a related navigation deal at a meeting in Oman on Monday. However, an Iranian official said no signed deal is expected yet from that meeting, and Iran's Tasnim news agency reported the understanding does not provide for the immediate reopening of the strait. The Strait of Hormuz is a vital waterway through which a large share of the world's oil passes.
