Israeli military establishes positions and conducts operations in southern Lebanon

The Israeli military has established a forward defense line and published a map showing troop positions in southern Lebanon. It says it now controls territory there.

During these operations, the Israeli army says it killed a senior Hezbollah commander named Ali Rida Abbas. An Israeli soldier, identified as Command Sgt.-Maj. (Res.) Barak Kalfon, was also killed in southern Lebanon.
