EU Proposes Social Media Ban for Children Under 13

In her State of the Union speech, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced plans for an EU Kids Act that would ban social media for children under 13. She also said she will invite leaders of frontier AI labs to talks on pacing advanced AI models and ensuring AI development happens in a European way, particularly in healthcare. The speech was attended by Mark Carney and put both AI regulation and child online safety at the center of the EU agenda.
