A ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran is under strain because of continued violence in Lebanon. Iran has stated that the talks with the US are conditional on a ceasefire also being implemented in Lebanon, and has threatened to pull out of its own truce if Israeli attacks there continue. France's leader, Macron, has urged both the US and Iran to respect the ceasefire and to include Lebanon in the deal.
Israel has excluded Lebanon from its ceasefire arrangements. Meanwhile, President Trump declared a 'total' victory over Iran, a claim which Iran's vice president mocked by saying Trump was 'stuck in the Stone Age'. Pakistan was also reported to be making diplomatic efforts to avert further threats from Trump toward Iran.
The situation leaves the US-Iran truce hanging in the balance as the war continues to flare in Lebanon, with international calls for the ceasefire to be expanded to stop the broader conflict.
