UN Experts Say US May Have Committed War Crimes in Iran Strikes

In September 2026, a UN fact-finding mission said there are "reasonable grounds" to believe the United States committed war crimes in strikes on Iran, including a school strike. The same mission said it found grounds to believe Tehran committed crimes against humanity.

Separately at the UN, Russia and China vetoed a US-backed resolution on Iran, a move Iran praised. Iran also rejected US membership on the IAEA Board of Governors, while Emirati official Dr Gargash called for dialogue with Iran to "turn the page" on the crisis. Reports also said China pressed Iran to help rein in the Houthis after a Saudi appeal.
