Lebanon and Israel reach framework agreement, Trump accuses Iran of violating ceasefire

On 26 June 2026, Israel and Lebanon signed a framework agreement in Washington together with the US. Rubio announced the deal as a first step toward peace, and Bloomberg wrote that it aims at ending the conflict. Netanyahu said the IDF will stay in Lebanon and called the agreement a blow to Iran. Israel and Lebanon denied a US claim of a troop pullback from the south.

Lebanon’s Aoun backed a French-Italian initiative for a multinational force to succeed UNIFIL, and VP JD Vance and Rubio were said to split on Israel’s attacks on Hezbollah and on criticism of an Iran deal. Trump again accused Iran of violating the ceasefire and declined to say whether the US would respond.
