Domestic

Somalia has taken significant steps to reshape its security partnerships, terminating all military and port agreements with the United Arab Emirates. This decision was prompted by an alleged airspace breach, with the government also investigating a separate incident involving Yemen's Southern Transitional Council. Concurrently, the United States conducted a series of airstrikes within Somalia targeting ISIS and al-Shabab militants.

International

Regional tensions escalated following Israel's deal to recognize Somaliland, a breakaway region claimed by Somalia. In response, Egypt has reportedly increased its military presence in Somalia, aligning itself with the Mogadishu government against the Somaliland agreement. Somalia has denounced Israel's engagement as an unauthorized intrusion. Elsewhere in the region, the Yemeni government is conducting operations to secure the Bab al-Mandab Strait, aiming to prevent Iranian weapons from reaching Houthi forces. Reports also note mutual accusations between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Syrian government, alongside Arab involvement around Mayyun Island in the same strategic waterway.
