South Africa: Security

A group of countries known as BRICS, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, recently completed a joint naval exercise in the waters off South Africa. The drills involved practicing how to rescue a commercial ship that had been hijacked. South African officials have defended the military exercises, calling them 'essential' amid ongoing tensions in the region's maritime areas.

Several separate incidents occurred in Cape Town, South Africa. The city plans to spend 115 million rand to build a wall protecting motorists on a dangerous stretch of the N2 highway, known as the 'hell run'. In a separate event, six teenagers were arrested after a vehicle carrying Welsh tourists was stoned on the same N2 highway. In another part of the city, Montague Gardens, four people were treated and an area was deemed safe after a chemical reaction occurred.
