Israel carried out airstrikes on Beirut for the first time since a ceasefire with Hezbollah was announced. The Israeli military said the target was a senior Hezbollah commander linked to the Radwan Force. At least nine people were killed and six wounded in the strikes, according to reports, and a school was also damaged.
The ceasefire, which had been in place for about a month, appears to be fraying. Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz, said the operation aimed to dismantle Hezbollah's capabilities. The Israeli army chief also vowed to seize the opportunity to weaken the group further, while Hezbollah confirmed that one of its senior commanders was killed in the attack.
