European Union reports a large drop in asylum applications and organizes evacuations

The European Union says the number of people applying for asylum in the EU dropped by 19% in 2025. This means about one-fifth fewer applications compared to the previous year.

At the same time, the EU organized several flights to bring European citizens home from the Middle East. Five EU countries are also working together to create new centers outside Europe to manage the return of people who do not have permission to stay.
