President Donald Trump has proposed creating a 'Board of Peace' to address the situation in Gaza. The plan has been outlined in recent days, though specific details about its mandate or how it would operate alongside existing bodies like the United Nations are not fully clear from the initial reports.
Trump has extended invitations to several world leaders to participate in this board. Reports indicate invitations have been sent to leaders including India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orban, and others. The proposal has reportedly caused a rare point of public disagreement between the current US and Israeli governments, with the latter expressing skepticism.
The broader reaction to the plan has been mixed. Some Palestinian voices in Gaza have shown little enthusiasm for the proposal. Meanwhile, separate headlines about Trump's past interest in acquiring Greenland for the US were revived in commentary, with one US senator calling it a 'dumb decision' and an analyst suggesting such a move would severely damage NATO.
