US and Iran exchange strikes after attacks on oil tankers in Strait of Hormuz

In early July 2026, the United States and Iran traded military strikes after several oil tankers were attacked in the Strait of Hormuz. The US accused Iran of breaching a ceasefire and bombed dozens of targets inside Iran. Iran retaliated by launching drone strikes on US forces in Bahrain and Kuwait, claiming 85 strikes on American military targets. Bahrain said its air defenses intercepted some of the Iranian aerial attacks.
